Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Financials, Materials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.89%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE), which rose 9.96% or 0.55 points to trade at 6.07 at the close. Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) added 9.51% or 1.30 points to end at 14.97 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) was up 8.02% or 3.05 points to 41.08 in late trade.
Biggest losers included North West Company Inc (TSX:NWC), which lost 6.20% or 2.11 points to trade at 31.94 in late trade. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) declined 3.95% or 0.36 points to end at 8.75 and Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) shed 3.47% or 0.16 points to 4.45.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 545 to 424 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.45% to 19.59.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.47% or 8.15 to $1,719.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.99% or 0.81 to hit $82.75 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.52 to trade at $88.52 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.25% to 0.76, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.31% to 0.76.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 109.64.
