Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.69% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC), which rose 6.59% or 0.145 points to trade at 2.345 at the close. Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR) added 6.43% or 0.350 points to end at 5.790 and Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX:SVM) was up 5.88% or 0.31 points to 5.58 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY), which lost 3.13% or 1.55 points to trade at 48.03 in late trade. Sleep Country Canada Holdings Inc (TSX:ZZZ) declined 1.98% or 0.65 points to end at 32.17 and Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF) shed 1.50% or 0.99 points to 64.97.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 717 to 313 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.45% or 26.05 to $1821.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.81% or 1.22 to hit $68.64 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.98% or 1.39 to trade at $71.57 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.55% to 0.7926, while CAD/EUR rose 0.20% to 0.6719.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.44% at 92.668.
