Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.54%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 14.01% or 0.87 points to trade at 7.08 at the close. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) added 9.02% or 0.37 points to end at 4.47 and Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND) was up 8.42% or 1.53 points to 19.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC), which lost 4.73% or 0.14 points to trade at 2.82 in late trade. Filo Mining Corp (TSX:FIL) declined 4.42% or 0.93 points to end at 20.09 and Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) shed 3.06% or 0.12 points to 3.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 526 to 447 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.08% to 12.02.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.14% or 2.75 to $1,945.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.26% or 0.23 to hit $87.28 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.07% or 0.06 to trade at $90.59 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.45% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.12% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 104.16.
