Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Materials, IT and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.54% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO), which rose 6.24% or 1.49 points to trade at 25.35 at the close. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) added 6.09% or 2.00 points to end at 34.83 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) was up 6.04% or 4.02 points to 70.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cenovus Energy Inc (TSX:CVE), which lost 1.81% or 0.44 points to trade at 23.82 in late trade. Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY) declined 1.54% or 0.55 points to end at 35.11 and Boyd Group Income Fund (TSX:BYD) shed 1.54% or 3.41 points to 217.48.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 621 to 366 and 101 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.87% to 13.88.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.46% or 29.55 to $2,054.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.12% or 0.93 to hit $82.33 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.23% or 1.07 to trade at $86.26 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.79% to 0.75, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.28% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.48% at 100.68.
