Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Energy, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TSX:TRQ), which rose 15.22% or 2.91 points to trade at 22.03 at the close. Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) added 6.58% or 0.275 points to end at 4.455 and SilverCrest Metals Inc (TSX:SIL) was up 6.57% or 0.64 points to 10.38 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX), which lost 4.31% or 0.38 points to trade at 8.34 in late trade. Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX:ENGH) declined 3.71% or 1.63 points to end at 42.31 and Richelieu Hardware Ltd. (TSX:RCH) shed 3.63% or 1.82 points to 48.35.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 628 to 385 and 113 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 4.14% to 22.93.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.38% or 6.95 to $1848.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.29% or 1.91 to hit $85.22 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.80% or 1.54 to trade at $86.97 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.18% to 0.7926, while CAD/EUR rose 0.42% to 0.7014.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 95.965.
