Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Financials, Clean Technology and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.46%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BRP Inc (TSX:DOO), which rose 10.99% or 4.92 points to trade at 49.69 at the close. Equitable Group Inc. (TSX:EQB) added 10.26% or 5.91 points to end at 63.50 and NFI Group Inc (TSX:NFI) was up 9.84% or 1.52 points to 16.96 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG), which lost 11.46% or 1.86 points to trade at 14.37 in late trade. Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO) declined 11.01% or 0.120 points to end at 0.970 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) shed 10.99% or 130.61 points to 1057.37.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 621 to 444 and 98 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.71% or 29.70 to $1705.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 3.19% or 1.06 to hit $34.31 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 2.08% or 0.74 to trade at $36.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 1.45% to 0.7253, while CAD/EUR rose 0.69% to 0.6603.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.92% at 98.972.
