Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Industrials, Utilities and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.44%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Thomson Reuters Corp (TSX:TRI), which rose 6.87% or 14.31 points to trade at 222.72 at the close. Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP (TSX:BEP_u) added 5.22% or 1.68 points to end at 33.89 and Paramount Resources Ltd . (TSX:POU) was up 4.96% or 1.51 points to 31.98 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Air Canada (TSX:AC), which lost 8.36% or 1.71 points to trade at 18.75 in late trade. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) declined 8.15% or 0.98 points to end at 11.05 and Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK) shed 5.16% or 0.16 points to 2.94.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 601 to 355 and 84 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 6.62% to 13.40.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.02% or 0.40 to $2,311.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.04% or 0.03 to hit $79.03 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.30% or 0.25 to trade at $83.69 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.47% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.32% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.37% at 105.24.
