Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, Healthcare and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Brookfield Property Partners LP (TSX:BPY_u), which rose 17.38% or 3.20 points to trade at 21.61 at the close. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) added 14.01% or 1.485 points to end at 12.085 and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI) was up 13.38% or 1.40 points to 11.86 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lightspeed POS Inc (TSX:LSPD), which lost 4.93% or 4.43 points to trade at 85.41 in late trade. CI Financial Corp (TSX:CIX) declined 4.50% or 0.71 points to end at 15.07 and NFI Group Inc (TSX:NFI) shed 4.19% or 1.01 points to 23.08.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 541 to 485 and 104 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 2.63% or 49.85 to $1944.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.55% or 0.75 to hit $47.77 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.16% or 0.60 to trade at $51.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.37% to 0.7829, while CAD/EUR fell 0.47% to 0.6391.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 89.882.
