Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the REITs, Consumer Discretionary and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.38% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which rose 4.10% or 0.110 points to trade at 2.790 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) added 4.05% or 0.560 points to end at 14.400 and Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) was up 4.02% or 0.45 points to 11.64 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which lost 31.84% or 0.570 points to trade at 1.220 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) declined 6.59% or 0.290 points to end at 4.110 and Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) shed 4.98% or 1.48 points to 28.22.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 645 to 417 and 104 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.02% or 0.25 to $1553.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.37% or 0.79 to hit $58.60 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.17% or 0.75 to trade at $64.75 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.01% to 0.7667, while CAD/EUR rose 0.15% to 0.6885.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 97.045.
