Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.35% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN), which rose 6.79% or 0.290 points to trade at 4.560 at the close. Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) added 6.74% or 0.800 points to end at 12.670 and CES Energy Solutions Corp (TO:CEU) was up 5.23% or 0.330 points to 6.640 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Semafo Inc . (TO:SMF), which lost 3.19% or 0.11 points to trade at 3.34 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) declined 2.96% or 0.230 points to end at 7.530 and Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC) shed 2.52% or 0.36 points to 13.92.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 704 to 378 and 140 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.78% to 10.69.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.42% or 5.40 to $1271.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.50% or 0.75 to hit $50.73 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.06% or 1.15 to trade at $56.95 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.76% to 0.7954, while CAD/EUR fell 0.29% to 0.6796.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.54% at 93.81.
