Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.35% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 6.36% or 0.810 points to trade at 13.550 at the close. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) added 5.99% or 0.580 points to end at 10.260 and Endeavour Mining Corp (TSX:EDV) was up 5.49% or 1.300 points to 24.960 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA), which lost 8.27% or 0.585 points to trade at 6.490 in late trade. Husky Energy Inc . (TSX:HSE) declined 2.67% or 0.26 points to end at 9.47 and Encana Corporation (TSX:ECA) shed 2.46% or 0.14 points to 5.54.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 636 to 409 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 10.45.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.25% or 3.85 to $1546.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.57% or 0.33 to hit $58.41 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.69% or 0.44 to trade at $64.64 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.03% to 0.7657, while CAD/EUR rose 0.07% to 0.6882.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 97.118.
