Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.25% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which rose 8.48% or 0.095 points to trade at 1.215 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) added 3.49% or 0.550 points to end at 16.290 and Westshore Terminals Investment Corp (TSX:WTE) was up 3.34% or 0.59 points to 18.26 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Encana Corporation (TSX:ECA), which lost 2.63% or 0.14 points to trade at 5.19 in late trade. Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO) declined 2.38% or 0.0500 points to end at 2.0500 and Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY) shed 1.64% or 0.62 points to 37.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 656 to 380 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.02% or 0.30 to $1560.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.22% or 0.13 to hit $58.71 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.45% or 0.29 to trade at $65.14 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.15% to 0.7664, while CAD/EUR rose 0.14% to 0.6907.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 97.430.
