Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Clean Technology and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.25% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO), which rose 11.45% or 0.6000 points to trade at 5.8400 at the close. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) added 9.02% or 1.01 points to end at 12.21 and NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) was up 7.27% or 0.120 points to 1.770 in late trade.
Biggest losers included CannTrust Holdings Inc (TSX:TRST), which lost 4.97% or 0.0900 points to trade at 1.7200 in late trade. Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) declined 3.78% or 1.320 points to end at 33.600 and Superior Plus Corp (TSX:SPB) shed 2.37% or 0.29 points to 11.94.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 626 to 411 and 135 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 2.63% to 12.10.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.19% or 17.85 to $1524.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.38% or 0.22 to hit $58.41 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.36% or 0.23 to trade at $64.63 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.00% to 0.7540, while CAD/EUR rose 0.23% to 0.6844.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 98.085.
