Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, Clean Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK), which rose 4.75% or 0.14 points to trade at 3.09 at the close. Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) added 4.14% or 1.19 points to end at 29.94 and B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO) was up 4.00% or 0.15 points to 3.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Constellation Software Inc . (TSX:CSU), which lost 2.49% or 94.97 points to trade at 3,723.03 in late trade. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) declined 2.30% or 0.20 points to end at 8.51 and Quebecor Inc Class B (TSX:QBRb) shed 1.58% or 0.47 points to 29.29.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 664 to 285 and 93 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.33% to 9.65.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.77% or 18.00 to $2,352.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 1.07% or 0.83 to hit $78.55 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 1.20% or 0.98 to trade at $82.82 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.26% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.21% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 104.51.
