Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.22% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD), which rose 13.10% or 0.190 points to trade at 1.640 at the close. Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR) added 6.73% or 0.400 points to end at 6.340 and BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) was up 5.90% or 6.97 points to 125.14 in late trade.
Biggest losers included OrganiGram Holdings Inc (TSX:OGI), which lost 3.79% or 0.13 points to trade at 3.30 in late trade. Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) declined 3.43% or 0.750 points to end at 21.140 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) shed 3.36% or 0.71 points to 20.45.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 503 to 466 and 118 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.18% or 21.35 to $1832.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.06% or 0.74 to hit $69.25 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.63% or 0.46 to trade at $72.57 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.28% to 0.7987, while CAD/EUR rose 0.22% to 0.6721.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 92.067.
