Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which rose 16.72% or 0.55 points to trade at 3.84 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) added 16.36% or 1.43 points to end at 10.17 and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI) was up 13.24% or 0.72 points to 6.16 in late trade.
Biggest losers included GENIVAR Inc . (TSX:WSP), which lost 5.44% or 11.99 points to trade at 208.45 in late trade. Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) declined 3.43% or 3.64 points to end at 102.37 and Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) shed 3.38% or 0.69 points to 19.73.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 575 to 376 and 105 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.18% to 10.92.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.64% or 37.35 to $2,319.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.54% or 0.46 to hit $85.61 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.57 to trade at $89.49 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.26% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.34% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.53% at 104.01.
