Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Telecoms, Healthcare and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.16% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aphria Inc (TSX:APHA), which rose 8.78% or 0.610 points to trade at 7.560 at the close. Centerra Gold Inc (TSX:CG) added 3.68% or 0.35 points to end at 9.87 and First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) was up 3.46% or 0.42 points to 12.56 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which lost 8.50% or 1.220 points to trade at 13.130 in late trade. Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF) declined 5.28% or 0.42 points to end at 7.54 and Ero Copper Corp (TSX:ERO) shed 3.85% or 0.74 points to 18.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 581 to 472 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.04% or 0.65 to $1558.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.89% or 1.69 to hit $56.69 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.26% or 1.46 to trade at $63.13 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.51% to 0.7612, while CAD/EUR fell 0.56% to 0.6863.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 97.282.
