Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, IT and Energy sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OrganiGram Holdings Inc (TSX:OGI), which rose 11.28% or 0.37 points to trade at 3.65 at the close. Dundee Precious Metals Inc (TSX:DPM) added 3.77% or 0.28 points to end at 7.71 and Alamos Gold Inc (TSX:AGI) was up 3.35% or 0.32 points to 9.87 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Westport Fuel Systems Inc (TSX:WPRT), which lost 6.03% or 0.35 points to trade at 5.45 in late trade. Badger Infrastructure Solutions Ltd (TSX:BDGI) declined 5.47% or 1.92 points to end at 33.10 and Trillium Therapeutics Inc (TSX:TRIL) shed 5.12% or 0.54 points to 10.01.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 524 to 512 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.12% or 2.20 to $1808.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 1.65% or 1.22 to hit $75.32 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 1.81% or 1.36 to trade at $76.52 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.52% to 0.7987, while CAD/EUR rose 0.18% to 0.6780.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.55% at 92.767.
