Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the REITs, Real Estate and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc (TSX:AUP), which rose 14.08% or 2.75 points to trade at 22.28 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) added 13.50% or 2.24 points to end at 18.83 and Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers Inc . (TSX:RBA) was up 5.14% or 2.95 points to 60.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cascades Inc . (TSX:CAS), which lost 5.39% or 0.85 points to trade at 14.91 in late trade. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) declined 4.54% or 0.710 points to end at 14.930 and Pason Systems Inc . (TSX:PSI) shed 4.07% or 0.30 points to 7.07.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 520 to 476 and 127 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.27% or 23.35 to $1867.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.10% or 0.04 to hit $41.88 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.02 to trade at $44.30 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.34% to 0.7454, while CAD/EUR fell 0.01% to 0.6443.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 94.925.
