Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, Clean Technology and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.08% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD), which rose 10.53% or 0.93 points to trade at 9.76 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) added 9.77% or 1.47 points to end at 16.52 and B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO) was up 8.38% or 0.46 points to 5.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb), which lost 10.30% or 0.170 points to trade at 1.480 in late trade. Spin Master Corp (TSX:TOY) declined 5.34% or 1.78 points to end at 31.57 and Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) shed 5.10% or 0.82 points to 15.27.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 553 to 506 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.19% or 18.95 to $1605.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.06% or 0.03 to hit $52.35 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.03 to trade at $57.70 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.15% to 0.7543, while CAD/EUR rose 0.24% to 0.6988.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 99.340.
