Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Consumption sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 1.05%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3), which rose 4.29% or 1.19 points to trade at 28.90 at the close. Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) added 3.82% or 0.49 points to end at 13.32 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA:PETR4) was up 3.34% or 0.44 points to 13.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4), which lost 5.70% or 0.66 points to trade at 10.92 in late trade. Marfrig Alimentos SA (SA:MRFG3) declined 4.29% or 0.24 points to end at 5.36 and Smiles ON (SA:SMLE3) shed 3.64% or 2.11 points to 55.81.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 216 to 151 and 38 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.01% to 30.07.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.30% or 3.70 to $1233.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.85% or 0.42 to hit $48.89 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 2.13% or 3.02 to trade at $145.02 .
USD/BRL was down 0.62% to 3.0720, while EUR/BRL fell 0.60% to 3.3001.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 100.14.
