Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Consumption sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 0.07% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6), which rose 6.40% or 1.34 points to trade at 22.29 at the close. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) added 4.33% or 0.78 points to end at 18.78 and EcoRodovias SA (SA:ECOR3) was up 3.64% or 0.43 points to 12.23 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3), which lost 1.93% or 0.95 points to trade at 48.40 in late trade. Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB3) declined 1.74% or 0.33 points to end at 18.64 and BR Malls Participacoes SA (SA:BRML3) shed 1.52% or 0.19 points to 12.32.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 232 to 171 and 48 ended unchanged on the BM&FBovespa Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 4.22% to 25.42.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.65% or 8.20 to $1278.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $58.34 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 1.31% or 1.60 to trade at $120.45 .
USD/BRL was up 0.92% to 3.3391, while EUR/BRL rose 0.79% to 3.9593.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 92.90.
