Investing.com - The S&P/ASX 200 added 14.3 points or 0.2% to 6,842.9 during Thursday’s session, partially recovering losses of 2.4% in the previous session.
Among stocks, Energy lead the gains, finishing 3.7% higher. Woodside Energy Ltd (ASX:WDS) added 4.3%, Beach Energy Ltd (ASX:BPT) lifted 3.3%, Santos Ltd (ASX:STO) added 3.5% and Viva Energy Group Ltd (ASX:VEA) added 2.2%.
Information Technology fell 0.3% as Block Inc (ASX:SQ2) fell 1.8%, Appen Ltd (ASX:APX) lost 2.9%, Megaport Ltd (ASX:MP1) fell 1.2% and Novonix Ltd (ASX:NVX) lost 1.7%.
Financials lifted 1.1%, with Macquarie Group Ltd (ASX:MQG) up 0.1%, Commonwealth Bank Of Australia (ASX:CBA) up 0.6%, National Australia Bank Ltd (ASX:NAB) adding 1.6%, Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Ltd (ASX:ANZ) lifting 3.4% and Westpac Banking Corp (ASX:WBC) gaining 1.7%.
Meantime, fresh employment data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics revealed that the economy added 33.5K jobs in August, below expectations for 35K, while the unemployment rate rose to 3.5% from 3.4%.
On the bond markets, Australia 10-Year yields were 3.705%, while United States 10-Year rates were at 3.437%.
In New Zealand, the NZX 50 finished flat at 11,658.9.
