Nov 24 (Reuters) - Australian shares were poised to rise at the opening on Tuesday as positive developments surrounding a potential COVID-19 vaccine fuelled hopes for a quicker-than-expected economic recovery.
AstraZeneca AZN.L said on Monday its COVID-19 vaccine could be up to 90% effective, cheaper to make and easier to distribute than those of rivals, in a boost to broader sentiment. local share price index futures YAPcm1 rose 0.5% or 33 points, a 32.4-point premium to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index .AXJO close. The benchmark rose 0.3% on Monday.
New Zealand's benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index .NZ50 rose 0.1% to 12,519.23 at 2118 GMT.
