Investing.com-- Senate Democrats have called off a Monday meeting to discuss their support for President Joe Biden, Axio reported on Sunday, amid growing doubts over Democratic backing for Biden’s reelection bid.
The meeting was reportedly organized by Senator Mark Warner, who was last week seen reaching out to Democratic senators to discuss support for Biden, the Axios report said.
While several Democratic senators have reiterated their support for Biden, many were seen engaging in discussions over whether Biden should be the party’s nominee for the 2024 Presidential elections.
These were sparked by Biden’s performance during a debate with former President Donald Trump, which drew questions over the incumbent President’s mental health.
Biden has so far signaled that he intends to run for President again.
But top Democrats were seen discussing potential successors for Biden’s candidacy, including Vice President Kamala Harris.
Senate Democrats are still set to meet on Tuesday, with reports suggesting that they could discuss Biden’s nomination then.
