Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Fishery, Mining and Rubber sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043), which rose 30.39% or 62.0 points to trade at 266.0 at the close. Taiheiyo Cement Corp. (T:5233) added 7.17% or 20.0 points to end at 299.0 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) was up 7.07% or 20.0 points to 303.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332), which lost 13.34% or 85.0 points to trade at 552.0 in late trade. Pioneer Corp. (T:6773) declined 12.67% or 37.0 points to end at 255.0 and Mitsubishi Materials Corp. (T:5711) shed 11.11% or 39.0 points to 312.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1514 to 434 and 55 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 5.04% to 27.30.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was down 1.16% or 0.54 to $46.16 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July fell 0.87% or 0.42 to hit $47.66 a barrel, while the June Gold contract rose 0.35% or 4.45 to trade at $1275.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.40% to 108.59, while EUR/JPY fell 0.69% to 123.20.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.18% at 94.28.
