Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare Equipment & Services, Food Producers and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.30%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were ITV PLC (L:ITV), which rose 2.92% or 7.70 points to trade at 271.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Glencore PLC (L:GLEN) added 2.71% or 2.1900 points to end at 83.0500 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (L:IHG) was up 2.69% or 68.00 points to 2591.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Associated British Foods PLC (L:ABF), which fell 2.73% or 91.00 points to trade at 3236.00 at the close. Smith & Nephew PLC (L:SN) declined 2.47% or 29.00 points to end at 1143.00 and Royal Dutch Shell PLC (L:RDSa) was down 1.47% or 21.50 points to 1442.00.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1215 to 926 and 454 ended unchanged.
Gold for February delivery was up 1.35% or 14.40 to $1079.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.33% or 0.48 to hit $35.58 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.86% or 0.69 to trade at $36.20 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.03% to 1.4893, while EUR/GBP rose 0.50% to 0.7330.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.29% at 98.44.
