Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Financials, Consumption and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.87%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5), which rose 6.16% or 1.35 points to trade at 23.25 at the close. Raia Drogasil SA (SA:RADL3) added 5.32% or 2.660 points to end at 52.670 and BB Seguridade Participacoes SA (SA:BBSE3) was up 3.41% or 0.96 points to 29.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3), which lost 16.92% or 0.55 points to trade at 2.70 in late trade. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 5.15% or 0.12 points to end at 2.21 and Cia Hering (SA:HGTX3) shed 3.46% or 0.49 points to 13.68.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 161 to 119 and 33 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 6.03% to 53.18.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 1.52% or 18.60 to $1242.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.01% or 0.38 to hit $37.37 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract fell 1.35% or 1.64 to trade at $119.78 .
USD/BRL was up 1.23% to 3.6863, while EUR/BRL rose 1.01% to 4.1926.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.06% at 94.55.
