India stocks higher at close of trade; S&P CNX Nifty up 2.02%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumer Durables, Real Estate and Healthcare sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty gained 2.02%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 2.01%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Housing Development Finance Corp. (NSE:HDFC), which rose 8.30% or 91.55 points to trade at 1193.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL) added 7.32% or 9.50 points to end at 139.25 and Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN) was up 6.55% or 5.60 points to 91.15 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NSE:BHEL), which fell 3.56% or 8.55 points to trade at 231.60 at the close. Bajaj Auto Limited (NSE:BAJA) declined 2.53% or 56.90 points to end at 2187.75 and NTPC Limited (NSE:NTPC) was down 0.63% or 0.75 points to 119.15.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Housing Development Finance Corp. (BO:HDFC) which rose 8.41% to 1195.20, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was up 6.55% to settle at 91.15 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which gained 4.80% to close at 225.85.

The worst performers were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was down 3.54% to 231.70 in late trade, Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which lost 2.44% to settle at 2189.30 and Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was down 0.62% to 334.70 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1204 to 212 and 12 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 622 rose and 114 declined, while 3 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 13.61% to 22.0425.

Gold for December delivery was up 0.18% or 2.00 to $1126.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 4.52% or 1.75 to hit $40.34 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 4.31% or 1.86 to trade at $45.00 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.03% to 66.031, while EUR/INR fell 0.24% to 74.5000.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.14% at 95.43.
