Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare, Software and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX lost 0.91%, while the MDAX index declined 0.34%, and the TecDAX index lost 1.92%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Heidelbergcement AG O.N. (DE:HEIG), which rose 2.56% or 1.840 points to trade at 73.750 at the close. K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) added 1.26% or 0.260 points to end at 20.940 and Thyssenkrupp AG O.N. (DE:TKAG) was up 1.22% or 0.210 points to 17.485 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Lufthansa AG VNA O.N. (DE:LHAG), which lost 4.55% or 0.695 points to trade at 14.590 in late trade. Lanxess AG (DE:LXSG) declined 2.57% or 1.080 points to end at 40.920 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) shed 2.39% or 0.197 points to 8.055.
The top performers on the MDAX were Fraport AG (DE:FRAG) which rose 3.36% to 53.600, Krones AG O.N. (DE:KRNG) which was up 3.27% to settle at 101.450 and Salzgitter AG O.N. (DE:SZGG) which gained 2.56% to close at 24.805.
The worst performers were Axel Springer SE (DE:SPRGn) which was down 1.62% to 47.705 in late trade, Elringklinger AG NA O.N. (DE:ZILGn) which lost 1.47% to settle at 23.415 and Gerresheimer AG (DE:GXId) which was down 1.33% to 68.050 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Bechtle AG O.N. (DE:BC8G) which rose 2.15% to 83.460, Jenoptik AG O.N. (DE:JENG) which was up 1.35% to settle at 12.725 and Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which gained 0.96% to close at 3.246.
The worst performers were United Internet AG NA (DE:UTDI) which was down 5.20% to 42.180 in late trade, Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which lost 5.12% to settle at 221.350 and Wirecard AG (DE:WDIG) which was down 4.52% to 32.705 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 517 to 321 and 33 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 1.18% to 20.87 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 2.80% or 34.40 to $1264.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 3.51% or 1.35 to hit $39.81 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 2.36% or 0.95 to trade at $41.28 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.86% to 1.1321, while EUR/GBP fell 0.71% to 0.7815.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.99% at 94.75.
