India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.09%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.09%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.19%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 3.53% or 12.35 points to trade at 361.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp Limited (NS:HROM) added 2.88% or 73.80 points to end at 2636.65 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) was up 2.76% or 10.95 points to 407.25 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which fell 3.82% or 2.95 points to trade at 74.25 at the close. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) declined 2.90% or 2.70 points to end at 90.45 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NS:TISC) was down 2.41% or 5.55 points to 224.45.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hero MotoCorp Limited (BO:HROM) which rose 2.87% to 2637.25, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which was up 2.77% to settle at 358.45 and Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which gained 2.22% to close at 2523.20.

The worst performers were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 3.82% to 74.35 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 2.90% to settle at 90.45 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 2.31% to 224.40 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 817 to 650 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 398 rose and 383 declined, while 13 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.41% to 17.0750.

Gold for December delivery was down 0.81% or 8.70 to $1067.60 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.83% or 1.19 to hit $40.72 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.68% or 0.75 to trade at $43.91 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.51% to 66.445, while EUR/INR rose 0.39% to 70.6120.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.24% at 99.89.
