India stocks higher at close of trade; S&P CNX Nifty up 1.06%

Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Metals, Power and Banking sectors led shares higher.

At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty gained 1.06%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.96%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were NTPC Limited (NSE:NTPC), which rose 5.22% or 6.25 points to trade at 125.90 at the close. Meanwhile, Vedanta Ltd (NSE:VDAN) added 4.43% or 4.30 points to end at 101.30 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) was up 3.80% or 8.85 points to 241.80 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Cairn India Limited (NSE:CAIL), which fell 1.41% or 2.05 points to trade at 143.60 at the close. Idea Cellular Ltd (NSE:IDEA) declined 1.01% or 1.50 points to end at 147.40 and Bajaj Auto Limited (NSE:BAJA) was down 0.49% or 11.45 points to 2314.35.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which rose 5.06% to 125.55, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was up 4.02% to settle at 101.00 and Tata Power Co. Ltd (BO:TTPW) which gained 3.78% to close at 61.80.

The worst performers were Bajaj Auto Limited (BO:BAJA) which was down 0.35% to 2310.50 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 0.22% to settle at 4308.00 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 0.10% to 313.35 at the close.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 981 to 445 and 11 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 520 rose and 235 declined, while 3 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 2.62% to 24.3200.

Gold for December delivery was up 0.25% or 2.80 to $1106.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.07% or 0.03 to hit $44.60 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.69% or 0.34 to trade at $48.70 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.11% to 66.316, while EUR/INR fell 0.10% to 75.0320.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.04% at 95.42.
