Investing.com – Canada stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Mining, Healthcare and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.38%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were TransAlta Corp (TO:TA), which rose 9.36% or 0.51 points to trade at 5.96 at the close. Meanwhile, Newalta Corporation (TO:NAL) added 6.52% or 0.33 points to end at 5.39 and Surge Energy Inc . (TO:SGY) was up 6.50% or 0.160 points to 2.620 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Capital Power Corporation (TO:CPX), which fell 10.34% or 1.94 points to trade at 16.82 at the close. Paramount Resources Ltd . (TO:POU) declined 7.88% or 0.70 points to end at 8.18 and Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb) was down 6.82% or 0.72 points to 9.83.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 731 to 627 and 201 ended unchanged.
Shares in Capital Power Corporation (TO:CPX) fell to all time lows; falling 10.34% or 1.94 to 16.82. Shares in Paramount Resources Ltd. (TO:POU) fell to 5-year lows; falling 7.88% or 0.70 to 8.18. Shares in Corus Entertainment Inc (TO:CJRb) fell to 5-year lows; falling 6.82% or 0.72 to 9.83.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.50% to 17.94.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.70% or 7.50 to $1068.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.13% or 0.06 to hit $41.84 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.69% or 0.31 to trade at $44.97 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.13% to 0.7480, while CAD/EUR rose 0.01% to 0.7036.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.16% at 99.81.
