Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Food & Drug Retailers and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO), which rose 3.89% or 6.0500 points to trade at 161.6500 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 3.72% or 40.00 points to end at 1115.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 3.60% or 80.00 points to 2301.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Inmarsat PLC (LON:ISA), which lost 4.22% or 33.50 points to trade at 760.50 in late trade. ITV PLC (LON:ITV) declined 2.43% or 5.10 points to end at 204.90 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) shed 1.65% or 24.000 points to 1433.000.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1042 to 1028 and 451 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.04% or 0.55 to $1271.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.07% or 0.50 to hit $46.20 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.62% or 0.30 to trade at $47.78 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.57% to 1.4367, while EUR/GBP rose 0.22% to 0.7862.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.64% at 94.71.
