Investing.com – Greece equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Banking, Basic Resources and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Athens, the Athens General-Composite gained 4.74%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Athens General-Composite were Piraeus Bank SA (AT:BOPr), which rose 27.07% or 0.049 points to trade at 0.230 at the close. Eurobank Ergasias SA (AT:EURBr) added 18.67% or 0.118 points to end at 0.750 and National Bank of Greece (AT:NBGr) was up 18.18% or 0.04 points to 0.26 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Frigoglass (AT:FRIr), which lost 20.00% or 0.06 points to trade at 0.23 in late trade. Iaso (AT:IASr) declined 4.47% or 0.022 points to end at 0.510 and Halcor (AT:XAKO) shed 4.17% or 0.010 points to 0.230.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 71 to 27 and 12 ended unchanged on the Athens Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.37% or 4.50 to $1231.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 3.08% or 1.28 to hit $40.22 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 2.94% or 1.29 to trade at $42.55 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.22% to 1.1290, while EUR/GBP fell 0.01% to 0.7958.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.24% at 94.71.
