Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Transport, Shipbuilding and Transportation Equipment sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 1.04%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were JX Holdings, Inc. (T:5020), which rose 4.19% or 19.4 points to trade at 482.1 at the close. Meanwhile, Nippon Electric Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5214) added 2.86% or 19.0 points to end at 684.0 and Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) was up 2.25% or 6.0 points to 273.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which fell 4.88% or 61.0 points to trade at 1189.0 at the close. ANA Holdings Inc. (T:9202) declined 3.47% or 13.0 points to end at 361.9 and Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103) was down 3.39% or 2.0 points to 57.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1422 to 451.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 14.79% to 23.83.
Crude oil for December delivery was up 0.55% or 0.23 to $40.97 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.81% or 0.36 to hit $44.83 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 1.48% or 16.00 to trade at $1096.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.17% to 122.40, while EUR/JPY fell 0.55% to 131.36.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.21% at 99.09.
