India stocks lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.71%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Banking, Real Estate and Metals sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.71% to hit a new 52-week low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.58%.

The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Limited (NS:NTPC), which rose 2.54% or 3.60 points to trade at 145.20 at the close. Meanwhile, Wipro Ltd . (NS:WIPR) added 2.13% or 11.45 points to end at 548.90 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) was up 1.66% or 19.30 points to 1181.90 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB), which fell 3.31% or 4.60 points to trade at 134.50 at the close. Punjab National Bank (NS:PNBK) declined 3.16% or 3.25 points to end at 99.65 and Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) was down 3.10% or 21.55 points to 672.95.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which rose 2.47% to 145.15, Wipro Ltd. (BO:WIPR) which was up 2.08% to settle at 549.00 and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which gained 1.59% to close at 1182.15.

The worst performers were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 3.02% to 75.50 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 2.67% to settle at 406.10 and TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 2.24% to 246.35 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1070 to 401 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 586 fell and 229 advanced, while 8 ended unchanged.

Shares in Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.31% or 4.60 to 134.50. Shares in Punjab National Bank (NS:PNBK) fell to 52-week lows; down 3.16% or 3.25 to 99.65. Shares in AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) fell to 52-week lows; losing 2.67% or 11.15 to 406.10.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.12% to 18.7125.

Gold for February delivery was down 0.31% or 3.40 to $1092.80 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.53% or 0.17 to hit $31.25 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $31.88 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.19% to 66.885, while EUR/INR rose 0.13% to 72.5980.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.10% at 99.02.
