Investing.com – Russia equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Telecoms, Oil & Gas and Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX rose 0.83% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were Rosneft (MCX:ROSN), which rose 4.68% or 17.35 points to trade at 388.15 at the close. Gazprom (MCX:GAZP) added 3.69% or 5.64 points to end at 158.63 and Moskovskaya Birzha OAO (MCX:MOEX) was up 3.69% or 4.45 points to 125.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Polymetal International PLC (MCX:POLY), which lost 6.00% or 37.50 points to trade at 587.00 in late trade. Tatneft-3 (MCX:TATN) declined 5.58% or 23.30 points to end at 394.00 and Severstal - ao (MCX:CHMF) shed 3.69% or 37.10 points to 968.90.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 125 to 106 and 15 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was up 6.50% to 22.950.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.20% or 2.35 to $1164.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 3.05% or 1.57 to hit $53.07 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.98% or 1.62 to trade at $55.95 a barrel.
USD/RUB was down 2.57% to 60.8879, while EUR/RUB fell 2.07% to 64.566.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.39% at 101.20.
