Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Automobiles & Parts and Precision Instruments sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 5.40%.
The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were The Japan Steel Works, Ltd. (T:5631), which rose 5.19% or 19.0 points to trade at 385.0 at the close. Meanwhile, Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) added 3.43% or 8.0 points to end at 241.0 and Uny Group Holdings Co., Ltd. (T:8270) was down 0.73% or 6.0 points to 818.0 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which fell 12.10% or 88.0 points to trade at 639.0 at the close. Denki Kagaku Kogyo K.K. (T:4061) declined 10.47% or 47.0 points to end at 402.0 and Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366) was down 10.47% or 89.0 points to 761.0.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 1857 to 27 and 6 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 29.64% to 42.47.
Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.83% or 0.24 to $29.93 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in April fell 0.15% or 0.05 to hit $32.83 a barrel, while the April Gold contract fell 0.40% or 4.80 to trade at $1193.10 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.84% to 114.88, while EUR/JPY fell 0.75% to 128.69.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.16% at 96.61.
