Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Metals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.21%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.10%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN), which rose 4.65% or 84.75 points to trade at 1905.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 2.20% or 18.40 points to end at 854.05 and NTPC Limited (NS:NTPC) was up 2.11% or 2.60 points to 125.85 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Punjab National Bank (NS:PNBK), which fell 6.95% or 6.55 points to trade at 87.75 at the close. Bank Of Baroda (NS:BOB) declined 4.86% or 6.35 points to end at 124.30 and Tech Mahindra Limited (NS:TEML) was down 4.76% or 22.40 points to 448.25.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 2.17% to 854.25, NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which was up 1.95% to settle at 125.60 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 1.77% to close at 218.40.
The worst performers were Coal India Limited (BO:COAL) which was down 4.38% to 309.20 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which lost 4.12% to settle at 310.60 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 3.68% to 2281.45 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1082 to 324 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 582 fell and 212 advanced, while 22 ended unchanged.
Shares in Tech Mahindra Limited (NS:TEML) fell to 52-week lows; losing 4.76% or 22.40 to 448.25.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.26% to 21.7275 a new 3-months high.
Gold for April delivery was down 0.68% or 8.20 to $1189.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 2.78% or 0.82 to hit $30.52 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.76% or 0.58 to trade at $33.46 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.14% to 67.960, while EUR/INR fell 0.04% to 76.1530.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.21% at 96.55.
