Investing.com – Taiwan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Iron & Steel, Optoelectronic and Transport sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Taiwan, the Taiwan Weighted added 0.72% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Taiwan Weighted were Tah Tong Texti (TW:1441), which rose 9.99% or 0.67 points to trade at 7.38 at the close. Microelectroni (TW:2314) added 9.97% or 0.97 points to end at 10.70 and Thunder Tiger (TW:8033) was up 9.92% or 0.87 points to 9.64 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tainan Cayman (TW:5906), which lost 8.50% or 0.170 points to trade at 1.830 in late trade. Macronix (TW:2337) declined 7.99% or 0.230 points to end at 2.650 and Evertex (TW:1470) shed 4.32% or 0.80 points to 17.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 508 to 236 and 107 ended unchanged on the Taiwan Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was down 1.04% or 0.51 to $48.59 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August fell 1.18% or 0.59 to hit $49.30 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.08% or 0.95 to trade at $1218.45 a troy ounce.
USD/TWD was down 0.01% to 32.621, while TWD/CNY rose 0.15% to 0.2018.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.09% at 95.74.
