Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Power, Public Sector Undertakings and Banking sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty declined 0.88% to hit a new 52-week low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.95%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML), which rose 4.63% or 23.70 points to trade at 536.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Idea Cellular Ltd (NSE:IDEA) added 3.41% or 5.10 points to end at 154.50 and UltraTech Cement Ltd (NSE:ULTC) was up 2.15% or 60.90 points to 2895.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NSE:BHEL), which fell 5.17% or 11.25 points to trade at 206.50 at the close. Punjab National Bank (NSE:PNBK) declined 3.89% or 5.25 points to end at 129.55 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NSE:ONGC) was down 3.80% or 8.90 points to 225.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 2.37% to 2599.00, TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was up 1.60% to settle at 219.65 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which gained 1.41% to close at 320.00.
The worst performers were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was down 5.10% to 206.55 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 3.56% to settle at 1134.95 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 3.55% to 225.55 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 757 to 667 and 16 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 395 fell and 345 advanced, while 3 ended unchanged.
Shares in Punjab National Bank (NSE:PNBK) fell to 52-week lows; falling 3.89% or 5.25 to 129.55.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was down 7.20% to 26.6500.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.11% or 1.30 to $1138.50 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 2.58% or 1.17 to hit $44.24 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.89% or 0.94 to trade at $48.62 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.28% to 66.195, while EUR/INR fell 0.76% to 74.5490.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.35% at 95.72.
