Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Fixed Line Telecommunications and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 3.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV), which rose 7.81% or 96.00 points to trade at 1325.00 at the close. Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) added 7.61% or 4.9500 points to end at 70.0000 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 7.02% or 15.600 points to 237.700 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which lost 1.44% or 95.00 points to trade at 6515.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 0.24% or 3.00 points to end at 1224.00 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) gained 0.73% or 25.00 points to 3427.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1781 to 373 and 384 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was down 0.45% or 5.85 to $1288.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 2.74% or 1.33 to hit $49.89 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.83% or 1.39 to trade at $50.56 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 2.19% to 1.4674, while EUR/GBP fell 1.85% to 0.7708.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.58% at 93.75.
