Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Banking, Insurance and Shipbuilding sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.70%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770), which rose 6.27% or 144.0 points to trade at 2440.0 at the close. Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Holdings (T:8309) added 5.74% or 18.8 points to end at 346.6 and Olympus Corp. (T:7733) was up 4.55% or 155.0 points to 3560.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004), which lost 3.16% or 40.0 points to trade at 1227.0 in late trade. TOTO Ltd. (T:5332) declined 2.85% or 110.0 points to end at 3750.0 and Sharp Corp. (T:6753) shed 2.37% or 3.0 points to 123.5.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1456 to 503 and 103 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.61% to 23.84.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was down 0.75% or 0.33 to $43.58 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November fell 0.77% or 0.36 to hit $46.23 a barrel, while the December Gold contract rose 0.02% or 0.25 to trade at $1318.25 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.15% to 101.93, while EUR/JPY fell 0.24% to 114.56.
The US Dollar Index was unchanged 0.00% at 95.28.
