Investing.com - Bitcoin's attracted both vocal supporters and detractors in the financial world, but what does the average American think about the trailblazing cryptocurrency?
It turns out, it has a lot to do with age and gender.
Overall, 2% of Americans own or have owned Bitcoin, but the number doubles to 4% when it comes to millennials, according to a recent survey by venture capital firm, Blockchain Capital. The ownership rate is 6% for millennial males.
The survey found millennials, especially males, had the most favorable views about the digital currency.
About one-third of the millennials surveyed said they are likely to buy Bitcoin in the next five years. The number was even higher for males in that group - 42%. Overall, just 20% of the 2,100 people surveyed said they would make a purchase.
One in four millennials surveyed said they would pick Bitcoin over stocks if given a choice.
