Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Mining and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.78% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 8.49% or 58.90 points to trade at 752.50 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) added 7.55% or 34.60 points to end at 492.80 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 7.50% or 11.8500 points to 169.9000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 1.78% or 19.00 points to trade at 1046.00 in late trade. Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LON:MKS) declined 1.74% or 7.70 points to end at 434.80 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) shed 1.46% or 7.400 points to 499.600.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1408 to 641 and 443 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 1.57% or 19.40 to $1254.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.65% or 1.09 to hit $42.28 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 2.26% or 0.97 to trade at $43.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.75% to 1.4385, while EUR/GBP fell 0.23% to 0.7905.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.48% at 94.00.
