March 8 (Reuters) - Gold held steady on Friday as risk appetite faded after the European Central Bank cut its growth forecasts and launched an emergency round of policy stimulus, while a strong dollar capped gains ahead of U.S. non-farm payrolls data.

FUNDAMENTALS

* Spot gold XAU= was steady at $1,285.17 per ounce as of 0119 GMT.

* U.S. gold futures GCv1 were also flat at $1,286 an ounce.

* Asian stocks were headed for harm on Friday after the ECB slashed its growth forecasts and launched an emergency round of policy stimulus, leaving investors fearing the worst for the global economy. MKTS/GLOB
