Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Industrial Metals & Mining and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.82%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which rose 7.46% or 66.00 points to trade at 951.00 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 6.07% or 67.00 points to end at 1171.50 and Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) was up 5.76% or 18.00 points to 330.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Provident Financial (LON:PFG), which lost 5.83% or 134.00 points to trade at 2163.00 in late trade. British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS) declined 2.40% or 130.00 points to end at 5283.00 and WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW) shed 2.19% or 5.40 points to 241.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1035 to 913 and 423 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.26% or 3.24 to $1251.06 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 3.11% or 1.44 to hit $47.78 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 2.92% or 1.42 to trade at $50.02 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.10% to 1.3041, while EUR/GBP rose 0.02% to 0.8939.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 93.81.
