Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Transportation Equipment, Fishery and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.50% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506), which rose 4.48% or 82.0 points to trade at 1913.0 at the close. Meidensha Corp. (T:6508) added 4.36% or 17.0 points to end at 407.0 and Maruha Nichiro Corp (T:1333) was up 4.27% or 125.0 points to 3055.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SUMCO Corp. (T:3436), which lost 4.78% or 74.0 points to trade at 1475.0 in late trade. Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. (T:2502) declined 4.61% or 169.0 points to end at 3497.0 and Showa Denko K.K. (T:4004) shed 4.51% or 77.0 points to 1630.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2025 to 988 and 319 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.55% to 18.47.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was down 0.23% or 0.12 to $52.71 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February fell 0.16% or 0.09 to hit $55.60 a barrel, while the February Gold contract fell 0.19% or 2.25 to trade at $1163.55 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.17% to 115.21, while EUR/JPY rose 0.18% to 122.58.
The US Dollar Index was unchanged 0.00% at 101.00.
