Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Industrials, Financials and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers Inc . (TO:RBA), which rose 24.21% or 9.110 points to trade at 46.740 at the close. Potash Corporation of Saskatchewan (TO:POT) added 11.48% or 2.40 points to end at 23.30 and Agrium Inc (TO:AGU) was up 7.35% or 8.56 points to 125.09 in late trade.
Biggest losers included B2Gold Corp (TO:BTO), which lost 8.00% or 0.300 points to trade at 3.450 in late trade. Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI) declined 6.90% or 0.40 points to end at 5.40 and First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) shed 6.42% or 1.11 points to 16.19.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 595 to 555 and 134 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 5.25% to 14.23.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.97% or 12.85 to $1314.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.19% or 0.56 to hit $46.42 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.23% or 0.61 to trade at $48.84 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.61% to 0.7638, while CAD/EUR fell 0.22% to 0.6854.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.54% at 96.05.
